Industries · Automotive & Motorsport
Engineering support for automotive and motorsport work.
In-house machining, welding, fabrication and prototype work for road cars, road bikes, race cars and race bikes — head skimming, custom brackets, one-off parts and R&D pieces.
The sector, in plain terms
How we support automotive & motorsport sites.
Alongside industrial engineering, we take on automotive and motorsport work from the same workshop. It's the kind of job that most industrial shops won't touch and most vehicle garages don't have the kit to do — cylinder head skimming and decking on car and bike heads, custom brackets, mounting plates, spacers, one-off parts machined from a drawing or a broken sample, and prototype R&D pieces for race teams and enthusiasts building something that doesn't exist yet. We work on road cars, road bikes, race cars and race bikes. It might be a head skim on a classic that's been leaking between the block and the head, a custom turbo manifold bracket for a modified saloon, a set of spacers for a track-day bike, or a prototype swingarm mount for a race project. Where the job is inside our capability, we're happy to quote — and where it isn't, we'll tell you plainly and point you in the right direction. Most work comes in via word of mouth, motor clubs and race paddocks, and turnaround is agreed job by job around the rest of our workshop schedule.
Typical requirements
What we typically get asked for.
Cylinder head skimming / decking — cars and motorbikes
Custom brackets, mounting plates and adaptor parts
Spacers, bushings, shafts and one-off machined components
Prototype parts for R&D and race projects — machined from a sketch, drawing or 3D model
Welding and fabrication work in mild steel, stainless and aluminium
Reverse-engineered replacement parts from a broken sample or photo
Iterative prototype development — first version, review, refine and re-run
Material selection advice — mild steel, stainless, aluminium, brass, bronze
How we work with the sector
Four things we do differently.
Road and race, cars and bikes
Work spans road cars, road bikes, race cars and race bikes — from a one-off part for a restoration to a prototype component for a race project.
Machining, welding and fabrication under one roof
Turning, milling, MIG, TIG and stick welding and general fabrication all live in the same workshop — so a job that needs a machined bracket welded to a fabricated frame is one supplier, not three.
Sketch, drawing or broken part
Send us a sketch, a 3D model, an engineering drawing, a photo with a rule alongside it, or bring in the broken component. Whichever is easiest — we'll work from any of them.
Honest scope
Where the job is inside our capability we'll quote it. Where it isn't — highly specialist machining, exotic-alloy work outside our stock, or anything requiring dedicated certifications we don't hold — we'll say so and point you in the right direction.

Coverage
Where we cover.
Our workshop is in Northwich and most automotive / motorsport jobs are drop-off, collect-when-ready — turnaround is agreed job by job around the rest of our workshop schedule. For race projects on a hard deadline, tell us the date at the point of enquiry and we'll confirm fit before we take the work on.
Automotive & Motorsport FAQ
Common questions from the sector.
Do you skim cylinder heads?
Yes — cylinder head skimming and decking for both cars and motorbikes. Bring in the head (or send it in) and we'll measure it, discuss how much needs to come off, and quote against the specific job. We work on modern and classic heads across a wide range of engines.
Can you machine a custom bracket for my project?
Yes — custom brackets, mounting plates, adaptor parts and spacers are one of the most common jobs on our bench. Send us a drawing, a 3D model, or a rough sketch with the dimensions marked and we'll come back with a quote and a lead time.
Do you do prototype work for race projects?
Yes — prototype and R&D parts are a big part of what we do. We're comfortable working from a napkin sketch through to a finished bolt-on part, and happy to iterate the design based on how the first version performs on track or on the dyno.
What if I've got a broken part and no drawing?
Bring it in — we can usually reverse engineer it. For anything with tight tolerances we'll measure it properly and produce a drawing before machining, so you get an accurate replacement rather than a copy of whatever failed. If the part failed because of the design (rather than fatigue or an accident), we'll say so before we start machining a like-for-like.
Do you work on race cars and race bikes as well as road?
Yes — road cars, road bikes, race cars and race bikes. The distinction rarely matters to the machining itself; what matters is the drawing, the tolerance, the material and the lead time. Tell us the deadline and any race-day constraints when you enquire.
How is the work priced?
Per job, against a drawing or a physical part. Small one-off jobs are usually quoted from a photo or a quick sketch. Prototype work is typically priced with the first version separated from any refinements, so you can decide after seeing part one whether to iterate or run more. We'll give a written quote before we start.
Working in automotive & motorsport? Let's talk about the scope honestly.
Send us a short brief of what you're trying to solve. We'll come back with an honest view on whether we're the right fit — and, if we are, a fixed-price way forward.
